Produced for commercial applications using Ziegler alcohol synthesis. This involves the oligomerisation of ethylene using triethylaluminium followed by oxidation of the alkylaluminium products.
Impact on climate of production and use
Quantitative GHG emissions data specific to the manufacture of octanal is not publicly available and will depend significantly on the specific production pathway used. As a rough guide estimates suggest around 3.2 to 4.9 tonnes of CO₂e are emitted per 1 tonne of octanal.
