GENERAL INFORMATION
Description
A predator of thrips which can be used for their biological control
Example pests controlled
Banded-winged palm thrip (Parthenothrips dracaenae); American thrips (Echinothrips amercianus); Vespiform thrip (Franklinothrips vespiformis)
Example applications
Ornamentals; Vegetables crops
Efficacy & activity
-
Appearance and life cycle
Females mimic ants in both behaviour and shape with a tendency to run. Males have a less pinched waist and are rare compared to females. They are around 2-3mm long. Both adults and larvae will feed on thrips.
