| SUMMARY |
| Hazard alerts |
The following Pesticide Hazard Tricolour (PHT) alerts are based on the data in the tables below. An absence of an alert does not imply the substance has no implications for human health, biodiversity or the environment but just that we do not have the data to form a judgement. The alerts for Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) are based on applying the FAO/WHO (Type 1) and the PAN (Type II) criteria to PPDB data. Further details on the HHP indicators are given in the tables below. Neither the PHT nor the HHP hazard alerts take account of usage patterns or exposure, thus they do not represent risk.
| PHT: Environmental fate | PHT: Ecotoxicity | PHT: Human health | Highly Hazardous Pesticide |

| Chemical structure |
|
Indolicidin exhibits cis–trans isomerism due to the presence of proline residues at specific positions in its sequence. These residues can form peptide bonds in either the cis or trans configuration, leading to multiple possible isomers with distinct three-dimensional shapes. This structural variability influences the peptide’s secondary structure, such as loops and turns, and affects its ability to interact with microbial membranes. | |

Ball park estimates for GHG emissions from peptide production suggest an order of magnitude in the range of 20–200+ kg CO₂e per kg of formulated peptide active, with wide uncertainty depending on route, scale, and solvent recovery. The lower end of the scale applies to bioprocess/fermentation routes, If the peptide is produced via recombinant expression and downstream processing is efficient and electrically powered with average grids, totals could plausibly sit in the tens of kg CO₂e/kg. The higher end of the scale applies to solid phase chemical synthesis which can be solvent and energy intensive. Without aggressive solvent recovery and at modest scales, totals can readily move into the high tens to low hundreds of kg CO₂e/kg, and higher if yields are low or purification is demanding. |
