SUMMARY
Hazard alerts
The following alerts are based on the data in the tables below. An absence of an alert does not imply the substance has no implications for human health, biodiversity or the environment but just that we do not have the data to form a judgement. These hazard alerts do not take account of usage patterns or exposure, thus do not represent risk.

Chemical structure
Isomerism
Sulprofos exhibits stereoisomerism due to its chiral molecular structure. Specifically, it contains a stereogenic centre, making it a chiral molecule that exists as a racemic mixture, a 1:1 blend of the two enantiomers.
Considered obsolete but may be available in some countries
Introduction & key dates
1978, first reported; 1999, withdrawn USA

Example products using this active
Bolstar
Helothion
Formulation and application details
Usually formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate
Commercial production
The commercial production of sulprofos involves chemical synthesis that starts with the reaction of phosphorus oxychloride with alcohols and thiols to form the phosphorothioate backbone, followed by incorporation of aromatic and alkyl substituents to achieve the final compound.
Impact on climate of production and use
Data for the amount of life cycle GHGs produced by sulprofos are not available in the public domain. However, whilst estimates vary, more general data suggests that between 14 and 19 kilograms of CO₂e is emitted per kilogram of insecticide produced.
