Chemical structure |
|
Decamethrinic acid exhibits stereoisomerism, specifically diastereomerism, due to the presence of multiple chiral centres and a rigid cyclopropane ring in its structure. These centres give rise to four possible stereoisomers, but only specific configurations (like the 1S,3R form) are biologically active and used in pyrethroid insecticides such as deltamethrin. The dibromoethenyl group attached to the ring does not contribute to E/Z isomerism because both bromine atoms are on the same carbon, but its bulky nature influences the molecule’s overall stereochemistry. | |
