The process generally involves heating these components in a reactor at high temperatures under a vacuum to remove water and drive the reaction, often assisted by catalysts like calcium oxide. While traditional chemical synthesis remains standard, modern "green" alternatives utilise microwave-assisted heating or enzymatic synthesis with lipases to increase efficiency and reduce energy use. The crude mixture then undergoes molecular distillation to isolate high-purity monoesters. |
