Imazalil is synthesised through a multi-step process that begins with the preparation of a 2,4-dichlorophenyl ethanol intermediate. This compound is then reacted with allyl bromide in the presence of a base to form an allyloxyethyl derivative, which undergoes nucleophilic substitution with imidazole to yield the core imazalil structure. For ester derivatives like imazalil sulphate the free hydroxyl group on the ethanol moiety is further reacted with sulphuric acid. | |||
