The production of sulphadimethoxine sodium begins with the synthesis of sulphadimethoxine, typically via the condensation of sulfanilamide with 2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine under controlled conditions. Once the base compound is formed, it is dissolved in a solvent such as methanol, and then reacted with a 20% sodium hydroxide solution at around 85 DegC for several hours to form the sodium salt. After the reaction is complete, the mixture is cooled and hydrochloric acid is added dropwise to adjust the pH to around 6.7, promoting crystallisation. The crude product is then purified by hot filtration using activated carbon, followed by cooling, centrifugation, and drying. | |||
